Warming Butternut Squash, Kale, Jalapeño Pepper Green Smoothie~

It’s winter and 20 deg F outside so I’m thinking about foods that keep me warm.  I love drinking a green smoothie in the morning so I made one which offers warmth.  This recipe was inspired by my friend Pilyeo Han who makes  Kabocha squash smoothies for breakfast.  I’ve added fresh turmeric root, fresh jalapeño pepper, chili pepper flakes and organic raw hemp protein powder  to it.   It’s a savory smoothie which heats you up and with 21 grams of protein, 31grams of healthy carbohydrates, provides you with the energy needed to keep moving during the cold weather.
Ingredients
1)1.5 c Organic baby kale
2) 0.5 c roasted butternut squash;
or substitute with acorn or Kabocha squash
3) 1/4 inch fresh turmeric root
4) 1/4 to 1/2 inch fresh jalapeño pepper
5) 1c organic unsweetened almond milk at room temperature
6) Pinch of sea salt
7) 4 Tbs Organic Raw Hemp Protein Powder by Navitas Naturals
8) 1/4 c boiling water
9) Red chili pepper flakes
