December Wellness

December has ushered in freezing cold temperatures here in central Ohio. Staying warm is a priority!

The cold, light, dry qualities you feel outside and in your body are a signal Vata season is upon us, where the energies of air and ether elements dominate.

Balancing Vata dosha is especially important right now to stay healthy, to feel nourished, rejuvenated, and energized.  December is filled with wonderful festivals and celebrations.  As we fully embrace these festivities, this is the time when we can deplete ourselves and feel exhausted.

The good news is you can avoid this and feel nourished and energized with Ayurvedic self-care tips.

Four Vata Balancing Tips For Winter

1. Keep Your Digestive Fire (Agni) Strong

  • Eat foods that are cooked, warm and well-spiced (not spicy)
  • Drink beverages that are warm or room temperature
  • A strong digestive fire will also help you feel warm from the inside out
  • Supports optimal immune system

2. Create A Daily Routine

  • The energy of excess Vata dosha is expansive, so sticking to a daily routine for eating and sleeping will help contain this expansive energy
  • A daily routine promotes a sense of grounding and calm

3. Schedule Time for Stillness Daily

  • Meditate daily, even for just a few minutes
  • Pause in between transitions to breathe
  • Slowing down will help you to be focused, feel energized , and to do more of what you enjoy

4. Cultivate Trust

  • Let go, and embrace imperfection
  • Ask for help and allow others to help
  • Focus on gratitude

This is your invitation to look back on the past year with gratitude and look forward with hope. We will spend time to release any negative emotions that may hold us back and plant seeds of hopeful intentions for the upcoming year.

Yoga Nidra, yogic sleep, is a guided meditation that allows you to get into a deeply restorative state.  During this state of deep rest, you can sink into a state of being and feeling, letting your mind rest.  This is an opportunity for you to integrate your busy life, harness the power of your subconscious mind, and align your intentions to support you in your everyday life.
