A Tulsi and plantain oxymel is a traditional herbal remedy blending raw honey and apple cider vinegar to create a sweet-sour syrup that supports immune function, acts as a respiratory tonic, and aids in breaking up congestion.

It is made by infusing dried or fresh Tulsi (Holy Basil) and plantain leaves in a jar with apple cider vinegar and honey for 2 weeks.

Tulsi Tonic for Respiratory Support This recipe was excerpted from Bevin Cohen’s book, Herbs in Every Season.

Ingredients

1 part dried organic tulsi leaves

1 part dried organic plantain leaves

3 parts raw honey

3 parts organic apple cider vinegar

Directions:

Combine the herbs in a jar and cover with honey. In a saucepan over medium heat, bring the vinegar just to a simmer, then pour into the jar. Cap and shake vigorously to mix well. Remove the cap and let the concoction cool to room temperature. Then cover and let steep for about two weeks, shaking the jar whenever you remember. After two weeks, place the closed jar in a pot of hot water to soften the honey, then strain out the herbs.

How To Use:

Add 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of the oxymel to hot or cold water whenever you feel the need.
